Q: Why should I reserve a full day instead of a 1/2 day?
A1:   For bottom fishing trips targeting Spot and Croaker a half day trip is normally plenty of time to catch fish.  We stay in the Patuxent river to fish so we don't spend much time traveling.
A2:   If you want to try to catch Rockfish and/or Bluefish we need more time to travel and try to locate those types of fish.  Keep in mind, half day trips for Rockfish or Bluefish limit us as to how far we can go due to time constraints.
Here's a few helpful items.
Here is a list of items that you should bring with you:
  • Sunglasses and Sunblock
  • Camera
  • Jacket
  • Soft non skid soled shoes (please no construction boots or black soled shoes).
  • Food and Beverages (no hard liquor please)
  • Zip Lock bags and cooler to carry home your catch
Q: What is covered in the cost of a charter.
A: We supply bait, tackle, ice and licenses.  You need to bring your own food, drinks and bags to take your fish home.
Q: What should we give the mate as a tip if we like the service provided.
A: The mate works for tips only, The mates are not paid by the Captain. While tipping is at your discretion, the average tip for a mate is $100.00 for a 1/2 day trip and $130.00 for a full day trip. It's a nice way to say "thanks!" for his hard work before, during and after your trip.
Q: Can I have my catch cleaned at the dock?
A: Yes.  Please arrange to have your fish cleaned in advance of your trip.  For a nominal fee, which is not included in the cost of your trip, you can have your catch cleaned at the dock.  Pricing is determined by the number of fish to be cleaned.  If you prefer to do the cleaning yourself, fish cleaning stations are available at the dock.
Q: Can we bring more than 6 people on our trip if they don't fish and just watch?
A: No, we limit our trips to 6 people per Coast Guard regulations.
Q: Can we drink liquor on board the boat?
A: No, liquor is not allowed on the Strike Zone.  You may bring beer as long as it's consumed responsibly.
Q: What do we need to bring with us?
A: A cooler large enough to take your fish home in.  Zip lock bags if you are having your catch cleaned.
Q: If we have a larger group can we still use Strike Zone Charters?
A: Yes!  The Captain can arrange other boats to join us.  We can help you put together a "friendly" competition between boats if you would like.
